Look in the Yellow Pages under “Barrels or Drums” One of the big suppliers is US Plastic. They are based in Ohio but have distribution. I’d look for a used one if possible. [Only registered and activated users can see links.

Thinking about buying or selling your CMR agency?

We’ve been informed that Hawthorne Executive Search has added a new service — connecting buyers and sellers of Yellow Pages agencies.

The industry is already very aware of their recruiting efforts. As an organization that has work extensively with the CMR community over the past 10 years to help them with their recruitment needs, they truly understand the Directory Advertising business. As the saying goes, “they get it”.

Most recently, Hawthorne has successfully completed several transactions between buyers and sellers and in record time. Since there is no formal market place for these transactions, this is a significant new business forum.

Here’s what they offer for these sensitive transactions:

  • Confidentiality
  • Professionalism
  • Fast turn-around

So, whether you are interested in selling or acquiring business, so you should talk with them.

Jenny Ciappa is the leader for this effort.  She can be reached at 973-220-7272, or via email at Jenny@HawthorneSearch.com.

Time to Boycott Omni Hotels — part 2

As a follow-on to the earlier post (click here), for those wishing to contact Omni about this absurd decision to remove Yellow Page books from their hotel rooms, here are some contact points:

Let them know what you think.  I have.  No response to this point ….

Time to Boycott the Omni Hotels

The USA Today reports that Omni Hotels, citing “environmental concerns”, announced it will no longer provide phone books in the rooms of their 35 hotels.

Spokeswoman Caryn Kboudi said “…we found that that no one uses them anymore. They just collect dust and take up drawer space.” Say what?

First off the drawers are or should be empty in any room you check into to begin with. Secondly, the books use no energy while they wait for the next occupant to check in, so where is the environmental impact? Third, is Omni admitting that they have dusty rooms? And finally, a Yellow Pages in a hotel room is very useful for hotel guests that don’t know the area and need to find products and services. The article notes that pages are often removed from the books, or the books have writing in them — probably BECAUSE PEOPLE REALLY DO USE THEM……

I just returned from a trip earlier this week and found the books to be very helpful in locating a copy service, restaurant, and even a local golf equipment supplier. All of that completed in just minutes long before my PC ever completed its boot-up, never mind trying to find the hotel Internet connection.

If the Omni wants to eliminate the books, that’s there business decision. My question to you, the people who work in this industry, who understand the value of these products, who derive your very living from these products – why would you ever choose to stay in another Omni again??? And don’t even think about holding meetings there.

I’m canceling my Omni frequent guest membership today. What are you going to do??

Time to fight back!!!

Contrary to what you may be hearing and reading, the print Yellow Pages are NOT dead. Far from it.

It’s time for the 50,000+ people who make their living from this industry — publishers, agencies, and suppliers, to start to fight back. Now.

We’re going to use this site to provide you with the facts, the tools, and the links to confront and challenge anyone that doesn’t get it.
